Philip Serrell
An Evening With Philip Serrell
Auctioneer, Author, TV Personality, RaconteurPhilip Serrell was born in Worcestershire in 1954 where he is now established as a professional auctioneer, running his own successful sale-room in Malvern.
Philip graduated from Loughborough College of Physical Education, and after a short career as a sports teacher, took up the post of trainee auctioneer in Worcester, working in the local livestock market, He then worked his way up from cleaning out the sheep pens to re-qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor, specialising as a fine art and antiques valuer.
His broadcasting career developed from recording a regular antiques slot on his local BBC radio station, to becoming a resident ‘expert’ on several BBC television programmes – namely Bargain Hunt, Flog It!, and more recently the 20th Century Roadshow, presenting their classic car feature.
During the course of the past twenty years he has uncovered a huge range of priceless (and worthless) antiques, and along the way, met, done business with and befriended people from some odd corners of English life. In his first book, An Auctioneer’s Lot, he brings to life a world in which the most valuable antiques frequently turn up in the most unlikely places – and accompanied by the most colourful characters. More hilarious and heart-warming anecdotal stories follow with the publication of his second book, “Sold To the Man With the Tin Leg”.
Philip is also an accomplished after dinner speaker and is becoming a welcome attraction in theatres with ‘An Evening With Philip Serrell’ talks in which he recounts enthralling stories drawn from his life experiences in sport, antiques, auctioneering, broadcasting and writing books. He is hugely entertaining and a real audience pleaser.
